Lexington One chooses future schools’ names
NEWS RELEASE — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lexington One chooses future schools’ names
LEXINGTON, S.C. — Last night, during its July 20, 2010 board meeting, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees passed a motion naming three future schools in the Lexington Attendance Area.
An elementary school under construction off Ginny Lane in Lexington and scheduled to open in 2011–2012 will be called Meadow Glen Elementary School.
A middle school also under construction off Ginny Lane in Lexington and scheduled to open in 2012–2013 will be called Meadow Glen Middle School.
A high school under construction off Corley Mill Road in Lexington and scheduled to open in 2013–2014 will be called River Bluff High School.
All three school names were chosen in recognition of their particular area and reflect the geography of the sites. For instance, the new high school sits back on a bluff just off the Saluda River. The elementary and middle school property includes grassy meadows and a glen with a stream running through it.
In November of 2008, Lexington One residents passed a bond referendum that gave the district permission to borrow $336 million to build five new schools (two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school in the Lexington attendance area and an elementary school in the White Knoll attendance area).
The first elementary school, Rocky Creek Elementary, opens in 2010–2011 on Calks Ferry Road.
